Selecting and Highlighting

NOTE: Green shaded fields of the budget are non-editable areas. The shaded fields contain information, such as labels or calculations, that Movie Magic Budgeting has made based on calculated budget data.

When you open a budget or drill down into a category or account, the first cell in the first row should be selected and active. It will have a light yellow background and a green border.

You can change which cell you have selected by clicking on another cell or by using the ARROW keys.

Pressing TAB will move your active cell to the right (or on to the next row where needed).

Pressing ENTER will move your active cell down to the next row.

Pressing TAB or ENTER at the last row/cell in the table will create a new row in that table.

You can press SHIFT + TAB or SHIFT + ENTER to move the active cell in the opposite direction.

Editing Cells

With a selected and active cell you can simply start typing to overwrite the data in that cell.

To edit the contents of the cell without overwriting, double click on that cell or press F2 to enter edit mode.

Clearing Cells

With a selected and active cell you can press DELETE or BACKSPACE to clear the contents of the cell. If the cell is in edit mode DELETE or BACKSPACE will start deleting the contents from the current position of your cursor.

Selecting Multiple Cells

Click and drag to select a block of cells, or hold down the SHIFT key while using the ARROW keys.

To select non-contiguous cells hold down CMD on a Mac or CTRL on a PC and click the cells you want to select.

Selected cells will have an orange background and a green border. There will always be one active cell highlighted in light yellow within your selection. You can change the active cell in a selection using TAB or ENTER, but pressing an ARROW key will break your selection.

Selecting Rows

To select an entire row, click the row number (far left) or a non-editable cell in the row (such as Total). You can also press and hold SHIFT while using the ARROW keys to move your selection to the very far left or right of the row.

When a full row is selected the orange highlight and green border will extend around the row number column (far left) and any non-editable columns on the right.

To select more than one row hold down SHIFT and click on the row number column of the rows you want to select. You can also hold down SHIFT and press the UP and DOWN ARROW keys if you already have one row selected.

To select non-contiguous rows hold down CMD on a Mac or CTRL on a PC and click the row number column of the rows you want to select.

Select All

To select all the rows in the current budget window (or in a setup table), make sure you have one selected and active cell in the window and then press CMD + A on a Mac or CTRL + A on a PC. You can also use the Edit menu and choose to Select All.

Deleting Rows

With an entire row selected press CMD + D on a Mac or CTRL + D on a PC to delete the entire row. You can also press DELETE or BACKSPACE or RIGHT-CLICK on the row and select DELETE.

Note: If you delete a row of a Category or an Account the system will ask if you are sure as all the contents (including Detail Lines) will also be deleted.
