Details: Overview¶
The Details Level is the third level of a budget where actual costs are entered. Categories on the Topsheet and Accounts in the Categories must be created before the Details Level can be accessed. There is a Details Level for each Account.
The sum of all Details represents the costs for the account.
Accessing Details¶
To see the Detail Lines in an Account, double click the line number on the far left of that Account row in the Category level.
You can also press CMD + DOWN ARROW
on a Mac or CTRL + DOWN ARROW
on a PC when a cell in that row is selected.
In an Account the first Description
cell for the first Detail Line
will usually be selected and active by default.
You can also use the Find Category/Account Number feature to jump straight to a given Account.
Inserting new Detail Rows¶
- Right-click any row in the Account and click on
Insert Row
- Select any row and press
CMD + I
on a Mac orCTRL + I
on a PC - Press
ENTER
with the last row of the Account selected - Press
TAB
with the last cell in the last row of the Account selected
Subtotals¶
Each detail line will present its own Subtotal in the far right column of the Detail page.
You can also add Subtotal lines to show a running total of all the preceding lines in this account up to the last Subtotal line (or the top of the account if there are no other Subtotal lines).
To insert a Subtotal line:
- Select a row in the Detail level.
RIGHT CLICK
on that row and chooseInsert Subtotal
.- A new Subtotal line will be inserted above the selected line.
To remove a Subtotal line simply select and Delete it.
Subtotal Adjustments¶
Subtotal Adjustments can automatically calculate adjustments to your budget based on preceding rows in a given account.
To insert a Subtotal Adjustment:
- Select a row in the Detail level.
RIGHT CLICK
on that row and chooseInsert Subtotal Adjustment
.- A new Subtotal Adjustment line will be inserted above the selected line.
By default a new Subtotal Adjustment line will have an Amt
of 1 and a Rate
equal to the total of all preceding lines in this account up to the top of the account (or to the last Subtotal Adjustment line if there is one).
The total (Amt
times Rate
of the Subtotal Adjustment line) will then be used as a calculated cost (or credit) in your budget. If you need to adjust the cost you can change the Amt
field or any of the X
fields to manipulate the final Subtotal for this line. The Rate
itself is not editable.
Note: Subtotal Adjustments ignore Subtotal lines. If you need to limit the calculation of a Subtotal Adjustment to only the lines after a recent Subtotal, then insert an additional Subtotal Adjustment line directly after that Subtotal and set its Amt
to 0.
To remove a Subtotal Adjustment line simply select and Delete it.
Getting Back to the Account¶
From the Account Detail Level click on the Account name in the breadcrumb at any time to return to the Category view.
You can also traverse up the levels of the budget by pressing CMD + UP ARROW
on a Mac or CTRL + UP ARROW
on a PC. This will return you to the Category level from the Account Detail level.
