Setup Library¶
Movie Magic Budgeting allows you to save commonly used tools to your Library so that they can be re-used from budget-to-budget without having to duplicate and clean-up individual budgets.
Budget and Library Tabs¶
Most Setup screens have both a LIBRARY
and a BUDGET
tab in the left rail. When you access a Setup table the BUDGET
pane is selected by default.
Any tools or categories you add or edit while the BUDGET
tab is active are saved to the specific budget you are accessing.
Copy to Library¶
You can save Tools to your Library to re-use in another budget at a later date.
- Access the Setup page & Category for the Tool you want to re-use
- Makes sure you are on the
BUDGET
tab - Highlight one or more Tools and click
COPY TO LIBRARY
- The system will ask you if you want to
Copy Dependent Items?
- Click
COPY & CONTINUE
The tool (or tools) you selected will now be saved in your Library. If they were in a Category that does not exist in your Library, that Category will be created. If they contained any dependent Tools (for example, if a specific fringe uses the Day
unit) then those Tools will also be copied to your Library.
Copy to Budget¶
When creating or editing a budget you can "copy down" Tools saved in your Library to use in that specific budget.
- Open the Budget you want to add the Tool to
- Access the Setup page & Category for the Tool you want to re-use
- Makes sure you are on the
LIBRARY
tab - Highlight one or more Tools and click
COPY TO BUDGET
- The system will ask you if you want to
Copy Dependent Items?
- Click
COPY & CONTINUE
The tool (or tools) you selected will now be saved to that Budget. If they were in a Category that does not exist in that Budget, that Category will be created. If they contained any dependent Tools (for example, if a specific fringe uses the Day
unit) then those Tools will also be copied to your Budget.
Updating the Library or Budget¶
The values of the Tools saved in your Budget are independent of the values of the Tools of the same name in your Library.
If you update the value of a Tool in a Budget, that will not automatically update the Tool of the same name in the Library (and vice versa).
If you copy a Tool to the Library (or from the Library to a Budget) and a Tool of the same name already exists at that location, it will be overwritten by the copied value.
If you make a change to a Tool and want that change replicated in another Library or Budget, repeat the Copy to...
instructions above. As long as the Tool uses the same name it will overwrite the existing tool at that location with the new value.
Note: This is also true of dependent tools. For example, if you copy a specific global for a labor rate to a Budget from your Library, any other globals it references will also be copied down. If one or more of those dependent globals already exists in the Budget, it will be overwritten with the value of the copied dependent.
A Tool's Category is also captured and copied with the tool, so this may move a Tool from one Category to another when overwriting existing Tools.
