Topsheet Structure

Your Topsheet is divided into sections.

Categories

Most of the rows on your Topsheet will be Categories, the top-level accounts (or headers) that contain multiple Accounts and roll-up the total costs for that group.

Production Total

Production Totals are subtotals that calculate the sum of all the Categories above them up to the previous Production Total or the top of the budget.

You can add as many Production Total lines to your budget as you like and rename them as you see fit. See Production Totals for more details.

The first Production Total in your budget (reading from the top down) defines what is "Above-the-Line" and what is "Below-the-Line."

If Fringes are posted to the Production Level then each Production Total will have a Total Fringes line presented just above it. This line can be renamed and given an account number as you see fit. See Fringe Settings for more details.

Charges

Charges are listed below the last Production Total in your budget.

See Applying Charges for more details.

In some cases Charges imported from older budgets may appear elsewhere in the budget. Movie Magic Budgeting currently only supports new Charges in this area.

Charges can be rearranged by unapplying all charges and then re-applying them in the order you want them presented (first to last).

Total Above-The-Line

This line displays if Display Summary Totals is on in Budget Preferences.

This will display the total for all "Above-the-Line" categories. This will match the total for the first Production Total added to your budget.

Total Below-The-Line

This line displays if Display Summary Totals is on in Budget Preferences.

This will display the total for all "Below-the-Line" categories. This will match the sum total of all Production Totals except the first one in your budget.

Total Above and Below-The-Line

This line displays if Display Summary Totals is on in Budget Preferences.

This will display the total for all "Above-the-Line" and "Below-the-Line" categories. This will match the sum total of all Production Totals in your budget.

Total Fringes

If fringes are posted to the Budget level, a Total Fringes line appears in the Topsheet calculating fringes across the entire budget. This line is read-only. Only one Total Fringes line can exist in the budget at any time.

Move the Total Fringes line

You can reposition the Total Fringes line anywhere in the Topsheet via the right-click context menu. The Move Fringe Total and Reset Fringe Total to Default Position options appear only when both conditions are met:

  • You are at Topsheet Level 1 (the main Topsheet view, not Category or Detail)
  • Post Fringes by Budget is selected in Budget Preferences

In any other budget level or fringe-posting mode, these menu items do not appear.

To move the Total Fringes line:

  • Right-click any row in the Topsheet (or CONTROL + CLICK on a Mac)
  • Select Move Fringe Total
  • Click the destination row to place the Total Fringes line above that row
  • All rows after the insertion point shift down to accommodate the line
  • To return the line to its default position, right-click any row and select Reset Fringe Total to Default Position

The position you set persists when you save and reopen the budget. The custom position is also reflected in the Topsheet Report and any exports.

The displayed account number and description for the Total Fringes line are controlled by the Fringe Category Account Number and Fringe Category Account Description fields under Post Fringes by Budget in Budget Preferences. Empty values hide the corresponding display element.

See Fringe Settings for details on posting modes.

Account Level Subtotals

Insert subtotal rows within an Account to calculate running totals across groups of Detail lines. This is most useful for department-level visibility inside larger accounts.

  • Open the Account at the Detail level
  • Select the row where you want the subtotal to appear
  • Press CTRL + = on a PC or CMD + = on a Mac, or right-click and choose Insert Subtotal

Grand Total

This will display the Grand Total (before Credits) of your budget, summing all Production Totals, Charges, and Fringes.

Credits

Credits are listed between the Grand Total and Net Total of your budget.

See Applying Credits for more details.

In some cases Credits imported from older budgets may appear elsewhere in the budget. Movie Magic Budgeting currently only supports new Credits in this area.

Credits can be rearranged by unapplying all credits and then re-applying them in the order you want them presented (last to first; the opposite of Charges).

If more than one Credit is applied to the budget the system will also display a credit Sub Total line.

Net Total

This will display the Grand Total minus any Credits.

At the very bottom of the Main Budget Pane you will see a series of totals that will update automatically.
