Notes

Notes allow you to comment on, question, or explain information in your budget. You can make notes on any line in the Topsheet, Category, or Account Detail.

Note: Movie Magic Budgeting now tracks who makes a note and will be adding features to provide a conversational approach to notes on the budget. As a result the Notes feature is not compatible with older Budgeting applications, and Notes will not be retained in imports or exports.

Create a Note

  • Select a single cell or row
  • RIGHT-CLICK that row and select Add Note
    • You can also press CMD + SHIFT + SPACE on a Mac or CTRL + SHIFT + SPACE on a PC to open the Notes pane
  • The Notes pane will open with a new note added for this row
  • Type your note content then click SAVE NOTE

You can save multiple notes per line. The Notes pane shows you all the Notes in the current level of your budget separated by Account number or Line number.

Viewing Notes

Any line that has a note attached to it will display the note icon in the Description column. To view a note either:

  • Click the Note Icon for that row
    • The Notes tab will open automatically
  • Open the Notes tab in the Apply Tools pane

The section highlighted in yellow shows you which Account or line number you are currently viewing. Each note describes who wrote it (either Me if it was your note, or the email address of the user who added it), and the date and time it was written.

Editing Notes

When viewing notes:

  • Click the EDIT button to edit the contents of a note.
  • Makes changes to the content of the note, then click SAVE NOTE

You can currently make edits to notes added by other users. See Sending Budgets for details on how to pass budgets back and forth.

Adding or Replying to Notes

When viewing notes you can click the + NEW NOTE button to add another note to that line or account. This changes the notes for the line or account currently highlighted in yellow in the Notes pane, not necessarily the line or account you have selected in your budget.

You can also reply to a specific note by clicking REPLY next to that note.

Remember, a collaborator will not see any notes or replies you have added unless you send a copy of the budget to them.

Deleting Notes

When viewing notes you can delete a note entirely by clicking DELETE next to that note.

If you delete a note that has been replied to, the reply is also deleted.

This cannot be undone.
