Versions

It is fairly common to need to branch the work on a given budget to try different scenarios or keep certain versions around for later review. You do not have to "save a copy" of a file (although you can use the Duplicate feature in the Open Budgets screen if you like).

Instead, Movie Magic Budgeting allows you to create a new version of your budget at any time. You can even create a version from a point in your recent history.

Create Version

  • In the main budget window...
  • Click on the + Version button at the top of the budget pane
  • The system will create a duplicate of your budget in its current state
    • The duplicate will have _1 (or another number) appended to the name to keep it unique
  • The new version is saved in the same folder as the original budget
  • The new version is opened automatically

Creating a Version from History

If you have made changes to your budget but now want a separate copy of its earlier state, you can hover over an entry in the history and click + Version. A copy of your budget will be created and opened that matches the state of the budget at that point.

The history in a fresh version of the budget is empty.
